Yorkshire Family History Research

York is situated at the very centre of Yorkshire and so the majority of places are only a short journey away.

The major record offices are:

  • North Yorkshire County Record Office – based in Northallerton, hold millions of documents all shapes, sizes and ages which can be used to obtain information for many personal, legal, administrative and historical purposes.
  • East Riding of Yorkshire Archives Sevice – based in Beverley, they look after over 6,000 metres of shelves with documents and printed local studies material from the 12th century to the present day.
  • West Yorkshire County Records Office – has its headquarters in Wakefield, and offices in Bradford, Calderdale (Halifax), Kirklees (Huddersfield), and Leeds.
  • Hull also has a city archives while Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham archives all serve what is now South Yorkshire.

All these record offices are only a short distance from York by car or train and so expenses are kept to a minimum.

I charge £20.00 per hour (2 hours minimum), £75 for a half-day (4 hours) or £140 for a full day plus any expenses for travel, printing, photocopying etc. I’ll provide a full invoice with my report.

contact me to discuss your requirements and I will advise you on the likely costs and we can set a budget for the work.
