Family History Research in York

I am based in York and so have a number of Record offices, archives and reference facilities on my doorstep.

  • York City Archives – contains York’s civic records including manorial records, solicitors client’s records, business and other records covering 800 years of life in York.
  • The Borthwick Institute – The largest archive outside London this holds the parish records for the modern archdeaconry of York, marriage bonds dating from 1660, probate records from the late 14th century to 1858 and much more.
  • York Family & Local History Collection – Yorkshire newspapers and periodicals, historical maps, marriage indexes 1539 -1837, Parish registers for York and Yorkshire, poll books and electoral registers, and much more.
  • York Family History Society Research Room – this offers a myriad of sources to records for both York and Yorkshire.

I can carry out family history research for you at any of these without charging any travel expenses because they are all a short bicycle ride away!

I charge £15.00 per hour, £50 for a half day (4 hours) or £90 for a full day. Additional expenses for printing, photocopying etc are not included.
