Project Start

I’ve been meaning to get this started for a couple of months now and though I’ve done a bit of research it hasn’t been particularly structured! So today I’ve decided to get organised and put together a plan for the project, hopefully I’ll find the time to do the work.

So what have I done so far? Well, as the start point is going to be who lived in the streets in 1911, I’ve been through the 1911 census and gathered the census entries for all the houses in Upper Price Street and Gray Street. I haven’t yet found the entries for Scarcroft View for some reason, was it built in 1911? If it was built I would have thought that the census enumerator would have recorded the details either before or after he collected those from Gray Street but he seems to have done one side of Gray Street, then the other and then moved on.

I’ve also got the lists of absent voters for the 3 streets (thanks to Ken Haywood) so when I’ve put the house pages together I’ll add this information as well.

Finally I’ve put this web site together as a place to keep all the information I’ve found and display it, hopefully that will help keep it organised and point the way to the next piece of research needed. My next immediate task is to document the occupants of each house in 1911 on a page for each house and then carry on from there. I’ll hopefully remember to document my sources as I go along.

If you have any information that may be of any use please get in touch.
